The charm of alpine climbing lies in particular in the variety That is, there are granite walls, limestone walls, dolomite walls gneiss walls and these different rocks require specific climbing techniques, which is part of the fun

In our latitudes, we usually encounter three types of climbing rock Gneiss, granite or limestone The interest of multi-length climbing is of course that I can climb big exciting walls But it is always interesting to know that there are different types of rocks and depending on the type of rock, I may have to use different climbing techniques It is also common for belay options to differ depending on the rock

Granite is found mainly in the Western Alps It is an excellent rock, very stable Which has excellent adhesion Because it is traversed by cracks and ridges, granite also makes it very self-insuring and is very popular with all climbers Limestone can be found from the Prealps to the Northern Alps but also in the Southern Alps

Limestone has a very fine structure, characterized by very small elements, such as cracks, overhangs, chimneys that are characteristic of limestone It is not quite as solid as granite but also provides good security and it is among others also known to form very steep walls and overhangs On the main ridge of the Alps, the most common rock is gneiss This is remodeled granite and therefore does not climb very differently So there are a lot of cracks and small ledges, which is really nice to climb

But with gneiss, there are variations in the quality of the rock There are really great gneiss, but there are also extremely fragile passages The charm of alpine climbing lies especially in the variety and variety is finally due to the fact that we always climb on different rocks And these different rocks require changing climbing technique, which is very rewarding
